以漢字的“人”作為核心創意，既反映了中國文化的特色，又呼應了上海世博會會徽的設計理念。在國際大型活動吉祥物設計中率先使用文字作為吉祥物設計的創意，是壹次創新。

三、名字由來
中國2010年上海世博會吉祥物的名字叫“海寶（HAIBAO）”,意即“四海之寶”。“海寶”的名字朗朗上口，也和他身體的色彩呼應，符合中國民俗的吉祥稱謂原則。“海寶”的名字與吉祥物的形象密不可分，寓意吉祥。
