聖誕節（Christmas）又稱耶誕節、耶穌誕辰，譯名為“基督彌撒”，是西方傳統節日，也是許多西方國家壹年當中最重要的節日。每年此時，歡快的聖誕歌在大街小巷飄揚，商場裏流光溢彩，琳瑯滿目，到處彌漫著溫馨歡樂的氣息。孩子們在甜美的夢鄉中，盼望著聖誕老人從天而降，帶來夢寐以求的禮物。

聖誕節的傳說
在公元四世紀的時候，有個叫尼古拉斯的人，出生在小亞細亞巴大拉城，家庭富有，父母親是聖誕節非常熱心的天主教友，不幸他的父母早逝。尼古拉斯長大以後，便把豐富的財產，全部捐送給貧苦可憐的人，自己則出家修道，獻身教會，終生為社會服務。尼古拉斯後來作了神父，而且還升為主教。他壹生當中，做了很多慈善的工作，他最喜歡在暗中幫助窮人。
尼古拉斯死後被尊為聖徒，是壹位身穿紅袍、頭戴紅帽的白胡子老頭。每年聖誕節他駕著鹿拉的雪橇從北方而來，由煙囪進入各家，把聖誕禮物裝在襪子裏掛在孩子們的床頭上或火爐前，這就是聖誕老人的傳說。
